Pat Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Leading Abusive Songs Targeting Coach Wilder

Patrick Bamford has signed with Sheffield United just seven months after starting insulting chants directed at the team's coach, Wilder.

This experienced forward, a free agent after departing from Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a agreement with the second-tier strugglers through the winter. Bamford's seven-year spell with Leeds was ended by mutual consent in August.

Among the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player included starting offensive chants about Wilder amid Leeds' promotion celebrations in April. Now, the former England player will feature for Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to pull his beloved club away from the drop zone.

Past Conflict Between Bamford and the Manager

Both men had history before Leeds moved up back to the top flight last season while Sheffield United lost the playoff final to Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as a "muppet" back when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United secured automatic promotion while Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.

Reconciliation and Moving Forward

Everything seems has been put behind them with Sheffield United, the league's lowest scorers, urgently requiring of a boost up front and Bamford aiming to resurrect his playing days.

The Wilder chant spread widely in April. An apologetic Patrick and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.

Chris Wilder said at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat recently and I have no problem whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow professional! But I valued and respected him calling me.

“We had 20 minutes and similarly I spoke to Daniel Farke too and we had a longer discussion together and he is a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we used to dish it out and take it and that’s part and parcel of football across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I told him that to Patrick.”
