Slot Offers Zero Justifications and Pledges to Find Way From Slump
Liverpool's head coach stated he needed to “look at myself” after the Reds suffered a sixth defeat in seven Premier League matches at home against Nottingham Forest and affirmed he would find a way from the champions’ slump.
Nottingham Forest, in the relegation zone prior to the match, delivered the largest victory at Liverpool's stadium in their history as Liverpool fell to an 8th loss in 11 matches in all competitions. The most expensive domestic acquisition, Alexander Isak, was once more unnoticeable and Liverpool argued the defender's first goal should have been disallowed for comparable grounds to the captain's chalked-off goal versus Manchester City prior to the international break. But Slot admitted the responsibility rested with him and made no excuses.
“Nobody wants to listen to me now talking about officiating calls if you are defeated 3-0 at home to Forest,” stated the Liverpool head coach. “I should examine my own role first and my team, but it demonstrates you how a score can alter the flow of a match. Earlier I was just waiting for us to score a goal. Later we hardly created anything.
“Of course there is a path forward, particularly with the quality players we have. No matter if you win or are beaten when you look back you are always thinking: ‘In which areas can we improve, in what aspects can we adjust?’ but that is something else from doubting your abilities.
“I want to emphasise I am responsible for the present losses. You are responsible when you are victorious but also liable when you are losing. I can not come up with enough excuses for us to have the results we have. That is far from good enough and I am responsible for that.”
Liverpool’s display fell apart as the coach made multiple offensive changes when chasing the game. “It was the same away at Nottingham Forest the previous campaign,” he remarked. “I took the French defender out and brought on the Portuguese forward and he found the net immediately to make it 1-1. Then it was courageous, now it’s probably unwise.”
Liverpool previously were defeated in back-to-back home league fixtures by Nottingham Forest in the sixties. The most recent occasion they lost consecutive league games by a three-goal scoreline was in 1965.
Slot commented: “It was very bad. Competing at home, losing 3-0 no matter which team you encounter is a terrible result. Surprising if you consider the opening 30 minutes of the game. I haven’t seen us producing so many chances in the initial 30 minutes maybe the whole campaign, and the initial occasion they arrived in our penalty area they scored.
“It did not happen at City, but in all other fixture we have been the controlling team and were able to create opportunities. Lately it is nearly consistently that we miss our chances and the ones we concede find the net.”
