The network's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
Last October, the late-night programming block saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the network unveiled a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often characterized by bleakness, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Executive Acclaim
The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who found the show and championed its peculiarly charming style.
"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about watching this charming family go about their daily lives.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to evolve comedy past its prevailing sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially be part of that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
