The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, donated by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
