Details on the Devastating Event
US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a attack on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.
White House Offer
The president explained he’s discussed a White House visit for the parents of both members of the state National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump told the press. “And similarly with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Reaction
Attendees came together over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s federal initiative to aid public safety in DC.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that instructors wished for. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a positive energy that inspired people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her former high school, told the media. “She was kind, considerate and always ready to assist people.”
Service plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Actions and Policy Revisions
Officials have indicted a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The tragedy caused the government to suspend refugee claims and halt issuing entry permits to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader the governor stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi stated on Fox News Sunday that she also intended to meet with the family.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a law enforcement officer with distinction, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had bravery,” Morrisey addressed the crowd at the service. “Though her life was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
